This weekend – Friday, July 17, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM, the concert hall “Lielais dzintars” invites Liepaja residents and city guests to a free outdoor event “Open-Air Concrt Hall. Musical Picnic” in the square opposite the main entrance to the concert hall.
From the terrace of the "Lielais dzintars" several chamber ensembles of the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra will delight the audience with diverse concert programs.
The concert will feature music of various genres and moods –
The Liepāja Horn Quartet will perform Giuseppe Verdi's most popular opera choruses, a cozy ländler, a song about edelweiss, and Hans Hohapfel's cheerful "Greeting to Liepāja".
The ensemble "Sunset Strings" and accordionist Artūrs Noviks will enchant the audience with exciting tango stories, offering both the fiery compositions of the Argentine genius Astor Piazzolla and Latvian Marģers Zariņš's hit "Pie bagātās kundzes".
The ensemble with the sonorous name "Sonore Antiqua" will take us into the graceful and lacy world of baroque music.
Marta Kauliņa-Pelnēna, Reinis Tomiņš and Matīs Skarēvičs will stir up the square with a powerful ensemble of percussion instruments. Drums, bells and vibraphone will create rhythms that will not leave anyone indifferent.
The “West Coast Trio” will perform the beloved and well-known songs of Latvian performers Goran Gora, Kārlis Kazāks, Māra Upmane-Holšteina, “The Sound Poets” and Ainars Mielavs, inviting every Latvian to hum along.
You can watch and listen to all this while comfortably settling down on the lawn with a blanket and snacks, or sitting at the tables opposite the concert hall.
An hour before the concert begins, at 18:00, café “Čello” will open in the square, accompanied by background music, offering savory and sweet snacks as well as refreshments.
With families in mind, the development platform "YOU+" will provide a variety of creative activities for children and youth both before and during the concert. It will be possible to color coloring pages, make bookmarks, and play "connect the dots". Before the musical program, visitors can also participate in more active games, such as musical chairs, "egg, chicken, dinosaur", the "boo game", "zip, zap, zoo", and similar activities.
During the event, Radio Street will be closed to traffic in the section from Jēkabs Dubelšteins Street to Jūras Street. In case of bad weather on the day of the event, the concert will be moved indoors—to "Pietura", the open lounge on the 1st floor of the concert hall.
The event "Concert Hall Open-Air. A Musical Picnic" is organized by SIA “Lielais Dzintars” with the support of the Uniting Foundation, the Development Association of Liepāja Concert Hall "Lielais dzintars", and the Liepāja State City Municipality.
