In the autumn season, the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra concert series “Sounds of Liepāja in Rundāle Palace” is offering two exquisite concerts taking place on October 25 and December 13.

In the first concert the audience will have the chance to enjoy the symphonic elegance of French music, where the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra will perform Jacques Ibert’s Flute Concerto with Egija Sproģe as a soloist. In turn, the second concert promises baroque musical enjoyment together with the ancient music ensemble “Sonore antiqua” and opera singer Gunta Gelgote.

At the concert taking place on October 25, the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of the conductor Guntis Kuzma, invites you to indulge in the masterpieces written by three French composers, which reflect the elegance, sophistication and melodic poetry of symphonic music: from Fauré's mysterious lyricism to Ibert’s virtuoso spark and Bizet’s youthful fervor.

Egija Sproģe, the concertmaster of the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra flute group, is a brilliant soloist and also a chamber musician, who constantly performs in the most unusual chamber music projects. The flutist also regularly performs as a member of the wind orchestra “Rīga”. As a soloist Egija Sproģe has performed multiple times with various orchestras, such as “Sinfonia Concertante”, Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra, Luxembourg Chamber Orchestra “Estro armonico” and State Chamber Orchestra “Sinfonietta Rīga”. Together with the “Sinfonietta Rīga” ensemble, she received the Grand Music Award 2021 in the category “For Outstanding Interpretation”, but she was also nominated in the category “Young Artist of the Year”. She is also the laureate of the 2021 Jurjāns Andrejs VII International Woodwind Competition.

On December 13, the ancient music ensemble “Sonore antiqua” will perform at Rundāle Palace, consisting of the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra musicians under the direction of the concertmaster Līga Baltābola, as well as the enthusiastic interpreter of ancient music – harpsichordist Gertruda Jerjomenko. The baroque music concert programme, which will feature masterpieces by Arcangelo Corelli, Antonio Vivaldi, Georg Philipp Telemann, Johann Sebastian Bach and George Frideric Handel, and the ensemble will also be joined by opera singer Gunta Gelgote.

Gunta Gelgote has delighted audiences with her delicate soprano at both the Latvian National Opera and the Lithuanian National Opera, and has also performed at the Vilnius City Opera under the direction of Gintaras Rinkevičius, the former chief conductor of the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra. Composers like Ēriks Ešenvalds, Mārtiņš Viļums, Indra Riše, Līga Celma, Onute Narbutaite and Gundega Šmite have dedicated their opuses to Gunta's voice. In 2022, Gunta Gelgote won the most prestigious Lithuanian award in the theater industry – the Lithuanian Golden Stage Cross in the category “Soloist of the Year”.
