The end of the year is a time for celebration, cheerfulness, and the magic of music – and that is exactly what the Liepāja Symphony New Year’s Eve Concert offers every year, which, as usual, will take place on December 28, 29, and 30. This traditionally dazzling event closes the year with elegance and sparkling energy.
This year’s programme will take the audience on a journey from the splendour of bel canto to the majestic dances of Vienna. Johann Strauss’ timeless classics will intertwine with the passion of Italian opera. Well-known melodies will alternate with delightful surprises.
Alongside the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, outstanding soloists – both vocalists and instrumentalists – will take the stage, breathe life into the music with their distinctive interpretations. Lithuanian soprano Lina Dambrauskaite, one of the leading soloists of the Latvian National Opera, Mihails Čuļpajevs, as well as the young and talented violinist Sofija Vasecka, who won the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra's Sympathy Award at this year's Valdis Vikmanis Latvian Young Performers Competition.
Liepāja Symphony Orchestra Artistic Director Guntis Kuzma has based the concert program on the music of Johann Strauss II. The Waltz King, who turns 200 this year, was one of the main figures in popularizing waltzes in Vienna in the 19th century.
In addition to his compositions in waltzes and other dance genres, Johann Strauss II gained wide international fame with his operettas, which are considered in music history to be the beginning of the classics of the Viennese operetta genre.
Under the direction of conductor Guntis Kuzma, the concert promises to be festive, lightly ironic, and emotionally uplifting. It is an invitation to surrender to music that stirs and delights – a wonderful farewell to the old year and an inspiring welcome to the new one.
