Brass music stars will perform at the Stars Festival

From 25 February to 11 March, the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra invites its listeners to the Liepāja International Stars Festival for the 31st time already, offering them a diverse and outstanding journey into the world of music at the Concert Hall “Lielais dzintars”.

On 4 March two great masters of modern brass music will take the stage of the festival: trumpeter Sergei Nakariakov and trombonist Christian Lindberg.

Christian Lindberg is a stage person by more than one hundred percent: a brilliant trombonist, a vital conductor and a composer as well.

At the Stars Festival he will play solo in his own Trombone Concerto “Black Hawk Eagle” and will conduct two other masterpieces: Meczysław Weinberg's Trumpet Concerto filled with mystical colours and unexpected changes in temperament and Jean Sibelius's famous Symphony No.2 – Finland's Manifesto of Independence.

Fearing no competition, another widely recognised brass instrument virtuoso will take the stage at Weinberg's concert – trumpeter Sergei Nakariakov.

The Paganini of Trumpets, as some like to name him, the Israeli-born musician Sergei Nakariakov is one of the world's most sought-after trumpeters. “Sergei Nakariakov plays the trumpet the way the rest of us breathe,” wrote the San Francisco Chronicle about his performance. Nakariakov's instrument sings out melodies composed both for brass instruments and vocals and strings at an incredible lightning speed.

Christian Lindberg's achievements in playing the trombone can also be compared with Niccolò Paganini’s achievements in playing the violin and Franz Liszt’s achievements in playing the piano. In 2015, the classical music radio station Classic-FM named him “The Greatest Brass Player of All Time”, and in 2016 he received the International Classical Music Award, previously won by such musicians as Esa-Pekka Salonen, Krzysztof Penderecki and Charles Dutoit.

Having premiered more than 300 compositions for the trombone, recorded more than 150 solo albums, created an international solo trombone competition named after him, having been named a brass virtuoso of the 20th century alongside Miles Davis and Louis Armstrong, today Christian Lindbergh is a living legend.

Besides this concert, the 31st Liepāja International Stars Festival also offers exciting chamber music concerts and symphonic and jazz music nights.

The concert is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia, the State Culture Capital Fund, the city of Liepāja and SEB Bank.

Tickets for the Festival concerts can be purchased at “Biļešu paradīze” ticket offices.
