The orchestra will give concerts with Egils Siliņš

On 2 July at 19:00 in Liepāja Concert Garden “Pūt, vējiņi!” the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra conducted by Atvars Lakstīgala together with the world-famous Latvian bass baritone Egils Siliņš will open the “Liepāja Summer” Festival with a grand opera concert.

The brightest Latvian bass baritone Egils Siliņš has won ten international competitions, and received the Latvian Great Music Award in three times. In 2011 he was recognized as the best opera singer in Croatia. He has conquered all the world's leading opera houses - La Scala, Metropolitan Opera, Hamburgische Staatsoper, Semperoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatro del Liceu, Mariinsky Theatre, Opernhaus Zürich, Chicago Opera, Staatstheater München and more. He has also participated at numerous prestigious music festivals, including the Bregenz Festival, the Tanglewood Music Festival, the Savonlinna Opera Festival, and the Glyndebourne Festival.

Together with the local opera star Egils Siliņš this concert will also feature the Italian tenor Dario di Vietri, who has won many awards and received considerable reviews from the critics in many prestigious world opera houses, and the young Serbian opera diva – soprano Marija Jelić, who started her serious professional career only a few years ago, but has already gained the affection of the audience and critics in many countries around the world. Both opera singers will perform in Latvia for the first time.

The concert will feature captivating opera melodies by Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini, Richard Wagner, Franz Lehar, Pietro Mascagni, Anton Rubinstein and Ruggero Leoncavallo.

“Works by Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini have a lot of emotional and technical sophistication, as well as strong performance traditions – this music is very close to me, I have rendered it very often. However, I have rarely conducted music by Richard Wagner, after all, it is so strong and majestic, hence I have even included in the concert programme two compositions from the "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg" opera composed by this genius,” says the orchestra conductor Atvars Lakstīgala.

As previously announced, this year, the “Liepāja Summer” Festival will return to its historic home by the seaside – Liepāja Jūrmala Park, in the renovated Concert Garden “Pūt, vējiņi!”, where during three grand concerts the audience will be offered a great amount of different genres, styles and eras. On 5 August, the Festival invites you to a symphonic music concert featuring the pianist Vestards Šimkus and saxophonist Oskars Petrauskis, at the conductor’s desk of the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra – Guntis Kuzma. While on 27 August, for the first time the audience will enjoy the performance of the rock-band “Pērkons” with a symphonic twist to it.

Tickets for the “Liepāja Summer” Festival are available in all “Biļešu Paradīze” ticket offices.
