The 29th Liepāja International Stars Festival will start in July

This summer in July and August the annual Liepaja International star festival will glisten, offering wonderful classical and jazz music moments interpreted by brilliant musicians.

The amazing conductors Gintars Rinkevičs and Atvars Lakstīgala , Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, internationally recognized pianists Agnese Egliņa, Georgijs Osokins and Reinis Zariņš, brilliant Lithuanian soprano Vida Miknevičūte, world renowned tenor, Aleksandrs Antoņenko, sensitive chamber singers Ilze Grēvele-Skaraine and Rinalds Kandalincevs, Georgian jazz voice Liza Kereselidze and the lively Xylem Trio — in five unforgettable evenings at the concert hall ”Great Amber’’.

On July 1 at 8 pm in the evening of Latvian vocal chamber music the singers Ilze Grēvele-Skaraine and Rinalds Kandalincevs together with the winner of the Latvian Grand Music Award 2020, pianist Agnese Egliņa will delight the listeners with sweet smells of a Latvian summer embodied in sounds, lyric and passionate, calm and gusty. The program includes music created by Jānis Mediņš, Jāzeps Vītols, Pēteris Plakidis, Paula Līcīte, Marģeris Zariņš and other notable Latvian composers.

Already on July 2 at 8 pm our internationally recognized pianist Georgijs Osokins invites to enjoy the piano music of Frederic Chopin – dreamy, stormy, masculine, sensual, unknown, guessable. Program is a sequence of original and captivating compositions of various genres – nocturnes, mazurkas, études and elegant waltzes, fantasy, ballade, also polonaise.

On July 3 at 8 pm the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra will finally meet with its listeners in person, this time conducted by Atvars Lakstīgala. The special guests of the concert will be the famous Lithuanian opera singer Vida Miknevičiūtė, whose performance in Liepāja will be just short before her debut at the Salzburg Festival, and the outstanding Latvian pianist Reinis Zariņš. Listeners will enjoy both wonderful opera music and Piano Concerto No. 2 by Johannes Brahms, full of restrained passion and symphonic scale.

The second part of the Stars Festival will take place at the end of August. On August 26, the concert will feature beautiful music by the genius Georgian master Giya Kancheli, which has strongly influenced both the Xylem Trio musicians and the rising Georgian jazz star Liza Kereselidze. But on August 27, together with the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra and maestro Gintaras Rinkevičius on the stage of “Great Amber” there will perform the world wide demanded Latvian tenor Aleksandrs Antoņenko with a monumental program of popular opera music.
