Margarita Balanas and Andris Veismanis in early music program

On 15 October at 19:00 in Liepāja Concert Hall “Great Amber” and on 16 October at 17:00 in Rundāle Palace, Liepāja Symphony Orchestra will give a concert with one of the brightest Latvian cellists Margarita Balanas, conducted by an expert in early music – maestro Andris Veismanis.

Cellist Margarita Balanas will perform a Cello Concerto with orchestra in D major by the Czech composer Antonin Kraft.

Andris Veismanis says: “For the first time I heard Margarita Balanas at the Latvian Great Music Award, and it was unforgettable! When Liepāja Symphony Orchestra addressed me regarding the concert programme in Liepāja and Rundāle, I immediately thought of Margarita and Antonin Kraft's cello concert. It is the most virtuoso and difficult in this certain genre, and Margarita is probably the only one who can play it.”

Antonin Kraft is one of the most virtuoso cellists of his day, to whom such Viennese classics as Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven have also dedicated their ingenious works.

Margarita Balanas is currently actively giving concerts both in Latvia and in other countries around the world. She is a laureate of many international concerts, she has performed in various prestigious concert venues and worked in collaboration with many outstanding musicians and ensembles.

The stylistically diverse program will also include the Orchestral Suite No. 3 by the unbeatable master of polyphony Johann Sebastian Bach and Symphony No. 8 “Unfinished” by the outstanding melodist Franz Schubert, as well as the “Rosamunde” Overture.

Andris Veismanis continues to talk about the concert programme: “My eternally worshipped Schubert with his mystical “Unfinished Symphony”, just like Mozart's “Requiem”, in my opinion, is a fantastic work of the highest quality. It is often called the first romantic symphony, whereas Bach Suite is famous for its aria, which is often performed separately, however, I would like to delight the audience with the entire Suite, which, undoubtedly, is an instrumental masterpiece of baroque music, and by playing this piece the musicians reach a new spiritual level.”

On 17 December Liepāja Symphony Orchestra and Margarita Balanas will meet once again, and she will be joined on stage by the violinist Kristīne Balanas in the concert programme “Balanas Sisters and Liepāja Symphony Orchestra” in the Liepāja Concert Hall “Great Amber”.
