Brilliant festive music at the New Year's Eve

On 30 December at 19:00 at Liepāja Concert Hall “Great Amber” Liepāja Symphony Orchestra joined by a number of Latvian soloists under the guidance of their conductor Atvars Lakstīgala will perform a light operetta and opera music programme.

ADDITIONAL CONCERT: on 29 December at 19:00

The luxurious musical themes from the operetta “Die Fledermaus” by Johann Strauss, former musical director of the Court of the Austro-Hungarian Emperor and The Waltz King, the aria from Camille Saint-Saëns's opera “Samson and Delilah“, “The Barcarolle” from Jacques Offenbach’s opera “The Tales of Hoffmann”, “The Flower Duet” from Léo Delibes' opera “Lakmé”, Pablo de Sarasate's gypsy melodies and Neapolitan songs are just a part of the wonderful New Year's Eve programme made by the conductor Atvars Lakstīgala in cooperation with opera soloists Ilze Grēvele-Skaraine and Ieva Parša, virtuoso violinist Paula Šūmane and a young talent – Riga Cathedral Boys Choir soloist Mariss Lakstīgala.

This programme is special, because the music we are going to play will be familiar to all listeners. I don’t think that “The Blue Danube” by Johann Strauss, “Csárdás” by Vittorio Monti and other popular compositions require any additional comments. The Orchestra will be joined by highly professional soloists that are well-known to our listeners in Liepāja. However, one of the soloists is very important to me personally – it is my 14-year-old son Mariss Lakstīgala, who will make his debut with the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra. Although the programme is very easy for the listeners to understand, it is going to be a real challenge for the Orchestra, because, for example, playing music composed by Strauss is stylistically difficult. But knowing this Orchestra, I am convinced that this concert is going be a very special event in the cultural life of Liepāja,” says Atvars Lakstīgala.
