Since 2022/2023 year season Guntis KUZMA is the chief conductor and artistic director of the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra.
The winner of the Grand Music Award 2018 for two outstanding performances: the interpretation of Ādolfs Skulte's Symphony No.5 at the “Grand Concert of Latvian Symphonic Music”, conducting the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, and the performance of Sebastian Fagerlund's Clarinet Concerto as a soloist. He is the winner of many international competitions.
Conductor and clarinettist Guntis Kuzma has clearly demonstrated his talent in front of many orchestras. From the year 2014 until 2022 he was the conductor of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, in 2019 he conducted the concerts of the Accademia Baltica Chamber Orchestra, as a soloist and conductor he also regularly collaborates with other orchestras, including the Sinfonietta Riga and Sinfonia Concertante.
Guntis Kuzma is a musician, who fears no challenge, judging from his active interest in contemporary music and premieres of a number of compositions by him both as a clarinettist and a conductor. In his interpretation the extremely complex opus Dialogue de l'ombre double for clarinet and electronics by Pierre Boulez has experienced Latvian and Georgian premieres.
Besides playing the world's golden symphonic repertoire, the conductor of the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra has set the goal to expand the collection of Latvian music recordings and commission new pieces of Latvian music, thus continuing orchestra's long-standing work on the Liepāja instrumental concert and symphony series.
Guntis Kuzma has performed in the USA, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Germany and Sweden. He is a participant of many Latvian Radio Foundation recordings. In 2022 Guntis Kuzma’s solo album, recorded in collaboration with the pianist Agnese Egliņa, was released.
