PROGRAMME: Ludwig van Beethoven Symphony No. 5, Emmanuel Sejourne “Marimba Concerto” (soloist Guntars Freibergs), Magnus Lindberg “Absence” (a tribute to Beethoven).

Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 will be performed for the first time at the concert hall “Latvija” by the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra and conductor Murat Cem Orhan. This Symphony is one of the most popular and frequently performed classical works in the world. It was first performed in Vienna, 1808 at the Theatre “An der Wien”.

Liepāja Symphony Orchestra is the oldest orchestra in the Baltic States. The orchestra's origins date back to 1881, when the first Baltic Philharmonic was founded. The orchestra collaborates with many outstanding soloists and conductors and regularly tours abroad. The Liepāja Symphony Orchestra has received several Latvian Great Music Awards and has won the The Annual Latvian Music Recording Award six times.

Percussionist Guntars Freibergs has gained wide international recognition. He is a laureate of many international competitions in Latvia and Europe. Guntars Freibergs is one of the most outstanding Latvian contemporary musicians and has been nominated for the Great Music Prize several times. He performs with orchestras all over the world and teaches at Ventspils Music High School.

Conductor Murat Cem Orhan has directed the Turkish State Symphony Orchestra and has worked with many orchestras and opera houses around the world. Among his extensive symphonic repertoire, he has conducted Puccini's “Turandot”, Donizetti's “L'Elisir D'Amore”, L. v. Beethoven's “Fidelio”, W.A. Mozart's “Die Zauberflöte”, “Cosi Fan Tutte”, “Don Giovanni”, “Le Nozze di Figaro”, G. Rossini's “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” and many other gems of classical music.
