Concert Hall Great Amber in Liepāja invites you to a celebratory concert for the 103rd anniversary of our state featuring the brightest Latvian performers of academic music as well as solo artists under the leadership of conductor Māris Sirmais.
On November 17 the concert will be available to listeners in person to be enjoyed in the excellent acoustics of the Great Hall, but on November 18 anywhere in the world via Facebook and Youtube streamings.
This year, the artistic leadership of the traditional national celebration concert program has been placed in the hands of Latvian choir culture promoter, conductor and visionary Māris Sirmais, who applied his monumental ambition to produce a multi-faceted concert program in two parts. The stage of the Liepāja Concert Hall will unite organist Iveta Apkalna, percussionist Rihards Fedotovs, oboist Pēteris Endzelis, composer and pianist Raimonds Tiguls, and their sound will be enriched by one of the proudest cultural beacons in Latvia and the largest professional choir in the Baltics, Choir Latvija. They will perform alongside residents of the concert hall – Liepāja Symphony Orchestra and the Girls’ Choir and Boys’ Choir Group of the Liepāja Design and Art School.
“I have created the celebratory concert program on the shoulders of three giants, or in this case, composers. The first part is the monumental piece by Raimonds Tiguls, “The Book of the Sea”, the essence of which includes both a wish and a reflection on the past, as well as a message for the future, all honoring the national celebration. The second are the most symbolic and beautiful pieces of symphony and choir music by Imants Kalniņš, in the year of his 80th birthday which was never celebrated. The third – a very intriguing yet little-known musical personality in Latvia, who has perfected his mastery in colleges all over the world, Rihards Fedotovs, and his creations of modern music,” author of the artistic concept of the program and conductor Māris Sirmais presents the selection of music for the program.
Thanks to the digital facilities of the Liepāja Concert Hall, the concert will be available to audiences in person as well as anywhere in Latvia and the world.
