In autumn, Liepāja Symphony Orchestra will take up the live concert broadcast series Tuvāk (Closer) very much appreciated in the previous concert season by both the local Latvian audience and listeners abroad. Join the broadcast on 10 September at 19.00 to listen to Haydn’s London Symphony presented by the conductor Andris Veismanis live from the Great Amber Concert Hall in Liepāja, Latvia.
Liepāja Symphony Orchestra started the series of concert conversations Closer last summer by inviting listeners to enjoy music and meet musicians on the stage of the Great Amber Concert Hall remotely. “The Orchestra is much loved by the public and associated mainly with a wonderful sound and image on the stage, but now the time has come to take a look at the unique personalities that form this splendid group,” says Uldis Lipskis, director of the orchestra. “We are truly happy that broadcasts of series Closer and Symphony Closer have reached thousands of people all over Latvia, educated them, pleased them and inspired them.”
The online concert series Closer gives floor to orchestra players performing brilliant solos in various musical styles and to Timurs Tomsons, the head of Liepāja Concert Hall, who introduces the musicians’ inspirations and tells about their professional careers and hobbies. There have already been 18 live broadcasts that are all still available on the Orchestra’s website video gallery.
But the concert series Symphony Closer brings listeners closer to the cornerstones of the world’s symphonic repertoire – beautiful classic symphonies that everyone should know. “The new version Symphony Closer of the concert series Closer has earned great popularity online, and important critics have appreciated the usefulness and high quality of these concerts by nominating the concert series for the annual Latvian Television and Latvian Radio award “A Kilogram of Culture”, continues Lipskis.
Broadcast of Symphony Closer is opened by a dialogue between the musicologist Orests Silabriedis and the conductor of the particular concert to present the overall and historical context of the symphony under question and its technical details. And then after the presentation of the symphony, Timurs Tomsons, who is the head of Liepāja Concert Hall, invites some of the specially invited Orchestra’s loyal listeners also known as regular admirers of the Orchestra’s concerts to share their musical impressions in a musical conversation.
Until now, episodes of the concert series Symphony Closer have been devoted to The Symphony No. 40 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, The Symphony No. 3 by Jean Sibelius, The Symphony No. 9 “From the New World” by Antonín Dvořák, and The Symphony No. 4 “Fate” by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. All recordings of these concerts are now available at the ticket booking service “Biļešu Paradīze” at a symbolic price.
