Golden Microphone for "The Glittering Wind" | LIEPĀJA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

Golden Microphone for "The Glittering Wind"

For the album "The Glittering Wind” the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra receives the Latvian annual award for music recordings "The Golden Microphone 2021".

The annual Music Record Awards this year were presented for the 25th time. Golden Microphone were presented in 22 categories.

Liepāja Symphony Orchestra won in the category "Classical Music Album of the Year" for the album "The Glittering Wind” released last year under the music publishing house "Skani".

The album contains music that the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra commissioned from five Latvian female composers in preparation for Latvia's birthday, inviting them to weave sound tapestries or love letters to Latvia. Their world premieres under the direction of conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius were performed on November 17, 2018 in the Liepāja Concert Hall "Great Amber". The concert recording includes Maija Einfelde's work "And a Tricolour Sun Shines on Everything…", Santa Ratniece's miniature "Aureola", Gundega Šmite's opus "The Glittering Wind”, Marina Gribinčika's miniature for symphony orchestra "The Waves of Cape Kolka" and Selga Mence's composition "Games of the Waves", the last three of which are especially inspired by the characteristic trinity – Liepāja, wind and waves.

This album also includes Santa Ratniece's Seventh Liepaja Concert for Piano and Orchestra, performed by conductor Atvars Lakstīgala and pianist Vestards Šimkus at the 2014 International Piano Star Festival in the hall of the Liepāja Latvian Society House.
