“This symphony will always be special and unforgettable for me, because it was the first large form symphonic piece which I conducted. It allowed me to understand the beauty of this profession, the endless challenges, the kaleidoscope of mistakes and discoveries, to survive sleepless nights and sometimes to enjoy ecstatic moments of happiness,” tells the conductor, “For the Finnish genius, this work was a breakthrough in freedom - in music as the highest peak of a fantasy flight, without frames, rules, but with a strong and enlightened mind, a score created with wildly burning heart.”

The concert series “Symphony CLOSER” is made to get to know the symphonic masterpieces of the world - beautiful, classical symphonies which everyone should know.

Before the symphony, music reviewer Orests Silabriedis and the conductor of the concert program will together reveal the context of the symphony’s creation time and structural details of the masterpiece, but after the symphony is played, Timurs Tomsons, director of the Concert Hall “Great Amber”, will hold a conversation, in which specially invited regular listeners of the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, who we know as never-absent guests in all of our concerts, will share the experience from their musical adventure.

In the first meeting with the symphony, which was watched in live stream by several thousand households on January 29, the listeners were able to enjoy the popular masterpiece of classicism era – the Symphony No.40 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Liepāja Symphony Orchestra was performing under lead of conductor Guntis Kuzma.
