The unique amber sound of the Orchestra has originated in a unique place at the Baltic Sea – in Liepāja.
On Sunday, 10 March at 6 p.m., jazz trio "3xHess" from Denmark will give a concert in Liepāja Concert Hall “GREAT AMBER”. The three brothers – jazz musicians that are widely demanded in Europe and America – will play in Liepāja for the first time and offer the chance to hear the best of jazz of the Nordic countries.
Saxophonist Emil Hess, pianist Nikolaj Hess, and drummer Mikkel Hess have recorded numerous albums and given concerts all over the world. These days they spend as much time in Copenhagen as in New York. In 2014, the brothers received the Danish Music Award in the category “The best jazz album of the year” for their album “Music for Mum & Dad”. “Interesting, brave and unbelievably saturated! Their music keeps surprising during the whole album. It holds listener’s attention, the mood changes several times. Very elegant! Musicians play together perfectly and the music they create is playful as well as beautiful expression of the whole,” writes about the trio the Jury of the Danish Music Award.
The three brothers have played together most of their career, which explains the particular understanding of jazz music and sound typical only of them. Liepāja jazz night will take place in Dzintars Jurgelaitis’ Hall of “GREAT AMBER” where they will play the repertoire of their own original music – jazz music with improvisations and various accents of rhythm and melody. Though the programme presents mostly the jazz of the Nordic countries with Scandinavian song melodies, one will be able to trace also American jazz rhythm, African folk music, elements of popular and classical music, fusion of which creates music that is special, unique and typical only of the trio.
The 27th Liepāja International Stars Festival, founded by Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, will take place from 9‒16 March at the orchestra residency – Liepāja Concert Hall “GREAT AMBER”. During two weekends there will be five excellent concerts featuring the performances of Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, world famous cellist Mischa Maisky, talented pianist Vestards Šimkus, outstanding Estonian conductor Risto Joost, Chamber Orchestra “Sinfonietta Riga”, State Choir “Latvija”, as well as many other stars.
The Festival is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia, Latvian Cultural Capital Foundation, Liepāja City Council, Cultural Department of Liepāja City Council, “Latvenergo” Ltd., Embassy of Denmark in Latvia and Danish Cultural Institute. Tickets to the festival concerts can be purchased at all Box Offices of “Biļešu paradīze” and at www.bilesuparadize.lv.
