The unique amber sound of the Orchestra has originated in a unique place at the Baltic Sea – in Liepāja.
On 10 August in Rundāle Palace, Liepāja Summer festival of academic music will present several concerts and conversations about music. The audience will hear symphony music as well as chamber music not only in the beautiful halls of Rundāle Palace but also in the nocturnal rose garden.
The one day festival in the White Hall of Rundāle Palace will begin at 4 p.m. with a fascinating chamber music concert featuring cellist Ivars Bezprozvanovs and pianist Rihards Plešanovs complemented by Orests Silabriedis’ narration. The concert programme includes “Lūgšana” (Prayer) by Lūcija Garūta, “Humoreska” (Humoresque) by Jānis Ķepītis and Sonata for Cello and Piano by Sergei Rachmaninoff.
At 5 p.m. in White Hall, the audience will hear passionate performance of Liepāja Horn Quartet. The musicians have prepared a special programme of music by Bozz, Mozart, Molter, Brahms, Verdi, Morricone and Shaw.
At 6.30 p.m. in Golden Hall, a conversation on the theme of “Pleasure and Duty” will be run by Imants Lancmanis, art historian and painter, former director of Rundāle Palace, Orests Silabriedis, musicologist and host of “Klasika” programme of Latvian Radio 3, and Igors Šuvajevs, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor of the Faculty of History and Philosophy of University of Latvia.
At 8 p.m. in White Hall, Liepāja Symphony Orchestra under conductor Andris Veismanis will perform with clarinetist Anna Gāgana, winner of the Great Music Award, and harpist Dārta Tisenkopfa, a laureate of numerous music competitions in Italy. The concert will feature “Italian” Symphony by Felix Mendelssohn, Clarinet Concerto No. 1 by Carl Maria Weber, as well as “Sacred and Profane Dance” for harp and strings by Claude Debussy and Symphony No. 29 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s.
Liepāja Summer Festival in Rundāle will close with a wonderful Baroque summer night in the palace garden. From 10 p.m., performances will be given by Liepāja Symphony Orchestra musicians Ilze Zariņa , first violin, Baiba Lasmane, violin, Leons Veldre, cello, and Dārta Tisenkopfa, harp. They will play music by Leclair, Bach, Scarlatti, Brahms, and Mortari.
Music Festival "Liepāja Summer", annualy organised by Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, is the spiritual heir and continuation of the legendary summer symphony music cycle LIEPĀJA SUMMER, in 1783 iniciated by Peter von Biron, the Duke of Kurland. Many decades residents of Liepāja city and their families have been able to enjoy the symphony music concerts on the open air stage in the seaside park. In the last few years the festival was participated by such artists as Giora Feidman, Gidon Kremer and „Kremerata Baltica”, Avi Avital, Tokiko Kato, Maija Kovaļevska and others. This is the second year that Liepāja Symphony Orchestra brings Liepāja Summer Festival also to Rundāle Palace.
