The unique amber sound of the Orchestra has originated in a unique place at the Baltic Sea – in Liepāja.

Ticket sales are open for the “Liepāja Summer” festival concerts

The Festival opening will take place on 18 August at 6 p. m. in the Great Hall of Liepāja Concert Hall “GREAT AMBER” and will feature LSO Principal Conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius’ (Lithuania) interpretation of Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem. The monumental piece will be performed by Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, State Academic Choir “Latvija” and soloists Sandra Janušaite (soprano, Lithuania), Kristīne Zadovska (mezzo-soprano, Latvia), Valentin Ditjuk (tenor, Ukraine) and Rihards Mačanovskis (baritone, Latvia). Verdi’s Requiem is a world-renowned opus, which even after 144 years since its premiere in Milan provides unforgettable emotional experience.

On 22 August at 7 p. m. a concert “The Golden Sounds of Liepāja French Horns” will take place in the Chamber Hall named after Dzintars Jurgelaitis. For years, LSO has provided opportunities to its musicians to perform chamber music; this time the concert will feature artistic and dynamic ensemble ‒ Liepāja French Horn Quartet. Musicians Ingus Novicāns, Aivars Vadonis, Mārcis Auziņš, and Edgars Kalniņš together with their like-minded peers have prepared a multifaceted programme that includes music by the geniuses of Baroque and Classical music J. S. Bach, W. A. Mozart, of Romantic music ‒ F. Shubert and J. Brahms, as well as popular jazz standards.

The Festival will close on 25 August at 6 p. m. with a concert given by Liepāja Symphony Orchestra and world-famous opera singer Maija Kovaļevska performing under conductor Atvars Lakstīgala. The concert programme will comprise golden arias from popular operas. Maija Kovaļevska is an Honorary Professor of Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music and has been awarded the Order of the Three Stars for her contribution to culture, operatic arts of Latvia, and promoting Latvia and its culture in the world
