The unique amber sound of the Orchestra has originated in a unique place at the Baltic Sea – in Liepāja.

LSO will performe a sparkling cocktail of Old Year's Eve

On 29 and 30 December at 7 p.m. at Concert Hall "GREAT AMBER" Liepāja Symphony Orchestra will offer two festive concerts featuring Elīna Šimkus, Daumants Kalniņš, Zigfrīds Muktupāvels, Egīls Šēfers and Uldis Marhilēvičs.

Concert programme "Old Year's Cocktail" will comprise popular melodies combined in an unusual way. It will include music from popular films, favourite academic compositions as well as the music by Latvian composer that has become classic. The concert audience will be treated to "New York, New York" from Martin Scorsese's film "New York", Ennio Morricone's "Gabriel's Oboe" from the film "The Mission" starring Jeremy Irons and Robert De Niro, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's "The Flight of the Bumblebee", the Fanfare and main theme from "Star Wars", Vittorio Monti's "Czardas" and many more world-famous themes by Latvian composers ‒ Raimonds Pauls, Zigfrīds Muktupāvels, Uldis Marhilēvičs and Jēkabs Jančevskis.

The concert announcer, actor of the Daile Theatre Lauris Subatnieks, will see to it that the concert is in the mood of New Year's Eve celebration. The performance will be directed by the Daile Theatre actor Gundars Silakaktiņš; the lighting designer will be Mārtiņš Feldmanis - winner of "Spēlmaņu nakts 2006" award. The concert will also feature guitarist Māris Kupčs, double bass player Aivars Meijers, percussionist Artis Orubs and pianist Normunds Kalniņš.
